A Complete Guide to Foreplay (An Unexpected Journey Begins)

When starting a new game from Return to Monkey Island, players will find themselves right where the second part of the series left off as a young Guybrush and his creepy brother Chuckie explore the Big Whoop amusement park. This section of the game serves as an extended tutorial of sorts, teaching players the basics of point-and-click adventure gameplay.
The entire section can be completed in minutes, although there are some optional side activities that may keep players a little longer. This guide will explain how to complete the Prelude in full Return to Monkey Island, from getting Scurvydogs for the two siblings to finding their real parents. It also explains how to unlock the Prelude’s two achievements, Pegleg and Lucky Duck.
How to get Scurvydogs
After taking a moment to pretend the nearby couple are their parents, Guybrush and Chuckie will decide they’re in the mood for Scurvydogs, which can be found in the yellow building with the wooden sign in front . Unfortunately, the counter guy won’t just hand them over without payment, so players will need to get some cash before they can eat.
At this point, Chuckie will suggest checking out the nearby outhouse, theorizing that people often drop their stuff while dropping their pants. While this is actually a very good idea, the door to the outhouse is currently locked, so players should use the pegleg to grab it outbuilding key attached to it by the door before heading back outside.
Next, players should open their inventory and use the key to unlock the outhouse door. Inside, they find a round metal disc on the floor that they need to examine. Chuckie will explain that the object is a snail and is sometimes used as a substitute for money. With that in mind, players should pick these up Snail and go back to Scurvydog Square.
Now that they have some form of currency, players are free to buy some scurvy dogs from the counter, although the ones he hands out don’t look particularly edible. At this point, players can also return the outhouse key to unlock the Pegleg achievement. This can be done anytime before completing the Prelude, although it’s better to do it now to avoid having to go back.
How to find Guybrush and Chuckie’s real parents
With their Scurvydogs in hand, Guybrush and Chuckie head back outside and go in search of the couple from a little earlier. That means going right into the next area, where the pair will meet Chuckie’s friend Dee. She decides to add some new optional goals to Guybrush’s to-do list. Players can skip these entirely if they wish, but doing so will miss out on an easily unlockable achievement.
Thankfully, all of the objectives are easy enough to tick off, with most being like checking out the anchor, practicing swordplay, and finding an anchor Four-leaf clover requires only a single button press to complete. In fact, Chuckie can also be beaten in a race with a single click, although players must have their fingers ready as Chuckie is no slouch.
In order to feed the duck, players must get some bread from the pair, although simply trying to grab it won’t work. Instead, players should check out the old man’s basket, which distracts the pair and offers an opportunity to sneak and steal something bread. To get something Ketchup For Guybrush’s Scurvydog, players simply need to pick up the red goo from the ground and combine it with the Scurvydog in inventory.
The last optional activity in the prelude is to make a wish at the wishing well. To do this, players should pick up the ones nearby coin and then throw it in the well. You have five options to choose from, although it doesn’t really matter which one you choose. At this point, players should also give the four-leaf clover they found earlier to the duck in the pond to unlock the Lucky Duck achievement.
With everything but the last objective crossed out on Guybrush’s to-do list, players should head to the far right of the area and open the wooden gate. If you follow the path behind it, you’ll come to a bench on which sits the real Guybrush, who turns out to be the father of the two young brothers and, unsurprisingly, the main protagonist of Return to Monkey Island.
After a brief chat, Guybrush senior agrees to reveal the secret of Monkey Island to young Guybrush, and the first part of the game officially begins. From this point things get a lot more challenging, although series veterans should find the experience a bit easier than some of the previous ones monkey island Play even if you’re playing the game on Hard difficulty.
