A Beginner’s Guide to the Monogatari . Series

Castle Monogatari The series is an anime franchise based on a light novel series written by Nisio Isin. It’s a very special supernatural anime, with a very quaint, avant-garde style and a great focus on the witty jokes and rambling dialogue featured in Isin’s writing. The first series (Bakemonogatari) aired in 2009, and since then, the franchise has grown into a huge property with multiple entries, including a series of films.

Newcomers to Monogatari can confuse them about how to start watching. Unlike most anime, Monogatari series does not follow the usual seasonal structure of 12 to 13 or 24 to 26 episodes. Instead, its “seasons” are divided into small series structured around the storylines established in the novel. While this can make it a bit annoying to keep track of all these series, they can also easily be grouped into three main installments.
